Qualities of a Good Leader

Qualities of a Good Leader

If there is any book in the bible that I just like to randomly flip through and read it would definitely be Proverbs.  There is so much wisdom in Proverbs for us to learn from, one category of that wisdom is leadership.  This makes sense since the book was written by King Solomon.   The following versus’ s show the qualities of a good leader:

Diligence

Diligent hands will rule, but laziness end in forced labor. – Proverbs 12:24

Doesn’t penalize people for integrity

If imposing a fine on the innocent is not good, surely to flog honest officials is not right. – Proverbs 17:26

Listens before answering

To answer before listening –  that is folly and shame. – Proverbs 18:13

Able to discern

The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out. – Proverbs 18:15

Listens to both sides of the story

In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines. – Proverbs 18:17

Stands up under adversity

If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength! – Proverbs 24:10

Stands up under praise

The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but people are tested by their praise. – Proverbs 27:21

Out of all of these I feel that I would be most susceptible to falling trap to the last one.  Praise tests a person, just as high temperatures tests the continuity of metals.  How does praise affect me?  Do I work to get praise?  Do I work harder after I have been given praise?  A person’s attitude towards praise tells a lot about his character.  People of high integrity  are not swayed by praise.  They are attuned to their inner convictions, and they do what they should whether or not they are praised for it.  I have excelled in most everything I have ever put my mind to.  Sometimes I lose sight of God and think that I am doing it all on my own, when in fact He has blessed me with the abilities to do the things that I do and that all the glory and credit should be pointed back to Him.  Glory to God!
