How Must Believers Relate to the Truth?

How Must Believers Relate to the Truth?

So how do believers of the truth relate to it?

They must know it:

“Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place” – Psalm 51:6

“This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” – 1 Timothy 2:3-4

They must come to knowledge of it:

“Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth” – 2 Timothy 2:25

“Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness” – Titus 1:1

“If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left” – Hebrews 10:26

They must choose it:

“I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have set my heart on your laws” – Psalm 119:30

They must believe it:

“But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.” – 2 Thessalonians 2:13

They must love it:

“This is what the LORD Almighty says: “The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for Judah. Therefore love truth and peace.” – Zechariah 8:19

They must walk in it:

“For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness.” – Psalm 26:3

“It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell about your faithfulness to the truth and how you continue to walk in the truth.  I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” – 3 John 3-5

They must live by it:

“But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” – John 3:21

“If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.” – 1 John 1:6

They must obey it:

You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?” – Galatians 5:7

They must worship in it:

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” – John 4:23-24

They must speak it:

“He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, and speaks truth in his heart.” – Psalm 15:2

“These are the things which you should do: speak the truth to one another; judge with truth and judgment for peace in your gates” – Zechariah 8:16

”Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another” – Ephesians 4:25

  1. What is truth? Who hasn’t either asked or been asked that question? It seems that no matter how many times or people you ask, there always seems to be a different answer. The follow up question needs to be – Who decides what truth is? This is where it can get scary quick. Too often, we allow ourselves to be led by the unqualified. We listen to what people say and if enough are saying the same thing, then we accept that as truth. But is it? For over 2 thousand years, the Word of God has been recorded and offered to anyone that is interested in reading it. All along, there have been many who have tried to disprove or nullify this document. To date, none have been able to do it. In light of this, I must ask – why are we still searching for truth? Mike, you make a great point in your 4th bullet above. We must believe it. Amen!
