Not A Fan | Chapter 9 Discussion

Chapter 9 talks about pursuing Jesus in a passionate way.  When I found Him I realized that up until that point it was a one-sided relationship . . .I was doing my own thing and He was passionately waiting for me.  It is crazy that God loves us so much that the instant we make a choice to pursue Him, He embraces us with no questions asked!!!

How do you pursue a relationship with Jesus on a day-to-day basis?

Matthew 6:21 says “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”  Where do your store your treasures?  In earthly selfish interests or in Heaven?

  1. I desire to be in passionate pursuit of Christ each moment of every day. I want to begin each day pursuing a deeper relationship with Him by reading the Word of God. Most days I am genuinely excited to open His Word and see what He has to reveal to me. Sometimes it’s a word of encouragement, other times it’s conviction in areas where I’m falling short, and sometimes it’s the testimony of those who have gone on this journey many, many years ago and His faithfulness to them and to us. I desire a deeper understanding of what it is to walk with Christ each step by attempting to listen to the Holy Spirit’s guidance in my thoughts and actions throughout the day. Too often, my mind is going a million miles an hour trying to get everything done, that I take my eyes off of Jesus, and it becomes difficult to hear the Holy Spirit’s call. I try to gain a better understanding of who He is and who I am in Him by sharing with others what He is doing in my life and by talking with them about what He is doing in their lives as well. He has so much to show us and often uses our interactions with other believers to reveal Himself. I love being around God’s children who love Him like I do, I wish we had an opportunity to come together and worship everyday, not just on Sunday. I also try to be in prayer throughout the day, submitting myself to His will and seeking His provision. As I said, it is my desire to pursue Him daily through all these things, but the truth is I fail often and sometimes miserably. I pray that as I grow in my maturity, the Lord will make my focus on Him unshakeable, despite the distractions that come with this life. I have every confidence that He will do just that. My hope is entirely in Him to accomplish all that I am powerless to do without Him. He is the vine an I am the branch, I can do nothing without Him (love that verse).

Happy Mike? Shall we move on to Chapter 10 now? 🙂

  2. Where do I store my treasures? This is a good question. Today, I feel that I can truly say that I am working to store my treasures in heaven. Although, I’m not really looking to get some kind of grand rewards there. The idea of simply being in heaven with my Lord Jesus Christ is greater than any reward I could possibly imagine. In the meantime, I am asking the Holy Spirit to give me the love, faith, passion for the Word and belief that I lack. I want the Holy Spirit to guide my every thought, to lead through every decision and to empower me in my pathetic weaknesses. I want to know Jesus like he wants to be known. John 6:37 states “All that the Father gives me will come to me,and whoever comes to me, I will never cast out.” Why has my Father given me to my Lord? I don’t know, however I long to work out my salvation as He continues to reveal His truth in my life. I can’t wait to see what happens next. I can’t wait to read His Word and pray to the only living God that loves more than any has ever known. It’s been an awesome ride and I feel like He’s just getting started with me. Praise God!
