I Tell You the Truth | Mark 14:18

I Tell You the Truth | Mark 14:18

When reading the bible I noticed Jesus said the phrase “I tell you the truth . . .” numerous times during His ministry.  I don’t know about you, but when I hear the son of God say, “I tell you the truth . . .”,  I figure it is a good time to listen and try to understand what He is referring to.  Today I will analyzing Mark 14:18.

17 When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve, 18 While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me-one who is eating with me.”

Have you ever been betrayed before?  I am willing to bet it didn’t feel good.  The thing about betrayal is that it is something only that the people who you love and trust can do to you.  An enemy can never betray you, as there was no trust and love to begin with . . . that’s why it hurts so much.  I personally have betrayed people in my life before.  One time I promised a track coach, Coach Williams, that I would be at school the day of track meet which conflicted with Senior skip day.  I didn’t show.  I traded my integrity to hang out with a girl that day.  I betrayed my coach, who only wanted the best for me, and myself.  Unfortunately there have been others I betrayed in my life, each out of self interests.  When I betrayed someone, it was to benefit myself.  I traded my relationship with them to fill my selfish desires.

In my life I have also betrayed God, who just like coach Williams wants the best for me . . . but in my life I have traded Him in for women, money, jealousy, drunkenness, etc.  I traded a relationship with my creator for the lies of the world.  Luckily God does not give up on us, and will be there waiting with open arms for us to return to grace.  How do we return to grace? I have learned a lot about studying my perfect example Jesus.  I have learned that the exact opposite of selfishness is what brings us grace, fulfillment and happiness.  I put myself second, and others first.  I pray that God gives me the strength that I need to live like this everyday for the rest of my life.  Please God, bless me with the strength!
