What did Jesus say about LOVE ?

What did Jesus say about LOVE ?

We are to love each other .  I have heard this many times before in my life but today I wondered to myself, “What did Jesus say about Love?”  Once I had a few moments to myself I cracked open my bible and found a cozy spot on the couch to investigate Jesus and this thing called love.

The first piece of scripture I came across that mentioned love was Mark 12:28-31:

“28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating.  Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, ‘Of all the commandments, which is the most important?’  29 ‘The most important one,’ answered Jesus, ‘is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.  30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’  31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  There is no commandment greater than these.”

In this snippet of scripture, Jesus is referencing what was said in Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18.  Love is definitely a key ingredient to becoming the person God intended us to be.  It is unfathomable how much love our Lord Jesus has for us.  Ask yourselves:

How many kings step down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
And how many gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that is torn all apart
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?

(Taken from the song, “How Many Kings” by Downhere lyrics)

The Answer:

No one but the King of Kings, our savior Jesus Christ.  Why did God do these things . . . . He did it out of Love.

Now I ask you a question:  Would you do the same for Him?

  1. sweet. because we all know that we cannot "earn our way into heaven", it is a gift. But i do find myself (thru the grace of God)…'wanting' to do good/nice things for others. and when i do, whether it is picking up litter in their yard, or whatever, i end up saying..'out of the love for God i do this'. point being..it's all about love. even though i know these acts of 'kindness' aren't getting me any brownie points with the Big Guy, i know the spirit of love is being planted, and more importantly that i am honoring Him thru my actions.

  2. Max Witgen says:

In James God says faith without works is dead. We are filled with the Holy Spirit to give us power to become children of God and to witness to our hearts that we are children of God. Jesus did so many good works that the Bible could not contain them all. Our
God is supernatural as are miracles and our ability to do good works. For our works of righteousness are as filthy rags and if we think we are something when we are nothing
we are wrong. Therefore give the glory to God for all our good works for He teaches,
lives in and through us, and is all good. We sinners have much to learn from our
    merciful loving God.
