I Tell You the Truth | Mark 10:29

I Tell You the Truth | Mark 10:29

When reading the bible I noticed Jesus said the phrase “I tell you the truth . . .” numerous times during His ministry.  I don’t know about you, but when I hear the son of God say, “I tell you the truth . . .”,  I figure it is a good time to listen and try to understand what He is referring to.  Today I will analyzing Mark 10:29.

29 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields-and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

What a tough concept to wrap my head around.  I could not imagine having to make a decision between being disowned by my family or being a christian.  The point is that we are to put God above all other things in our life.  Whether it your family, your possessions, or your personal goals God ultimately comes first.  God promises those who are able to put Him above all else 100 times of whatever it is that was forsaken in His name.  He also promises us persecution for our christians actions because the world doesn’t know God or chooses not to follow His commands.  Jesus emphasized persecution to make sure that people do not selfishly follow him only for the rewards.

Question:

In your life, have you been persecuted in any way for believing in Christ Jesus and following God’s commands?  If not, do you think you live to make everyone feel that no matter what they do, it’s ok?  Do you live to keep the peace instead of speaking the truth?

  1. I have been guilty of trying to keep the peace. But I let people know what I think so they know where I stand (hopefully to nudge them in the right direction). I don't think I let people think that what they are doing is ok but that I will love them anyway. I place 'situations' in God's hands because I know he will take care of it through the Holy Spirit.

  2. yeah i've been made 'fun' of at times…usually by friends, or been included in the butt of jokes with affiliation with my denomination, but in a way its an honor. i'm perhaps in a unique position where i 'don't need to fit in', so perhaps thats why it doesn't bother me so much. and it doesn't happen often so its not like i'm in life threatening situations. I've spoken to friends about "this" or "that" sin etc etc. like i said before, the example you set will speak louder than words. all of us, with possibly the exception of the mentally ill, KNOW what is right and wrong. so most times i am not on the soap box preaching, but am instead saying prayers internally. right , wrong, ? i don't know, but that is the place i am right now in my life.
