I Tell You the Truth | Mark 11:23

I Tell You the Truth | Mark 11:23

When reading the bible I noticed Jesus said the phrase “I tell you the truth . . .” numerous times during His ministry.  I don’t know about you, but when I hear the son of God say, “I tell you the truth . . .”,  I figure it is a good time to listen and try to understand what He is referring to.  Today I will analyzing Mark 11:23.

22 “Have faith in God”, Jesus answered. 23 “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.  24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.  25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

Wow, I don’t know about you but the last time I told a mountain to throw itself into the sea . . .  it just didn’t happen.  Why do we have so little faith?  I truly do believe, or at least think I truly believe in God’s power so then why can I not tell mountains to move and watch them obey?  What am I missing? I can actually feel the burning of the Holy Spirit within me at times but yet there is obviously some doubt left within me that prevents me from moving mountains.  Disappointing, but yet exciting because I know there is so much more room to grow within Christ!

It should also be noted that in order for God to forgive our sins, we must first forgive others who have sinned against us.  For us to receive the answers to our prayers, we need to believe that God will deliver with 100% certainty and whatever we ask for shall be ours.  Why is it so hard to put all our trust in God!!!  I personally don’t just want to fully trust in Him, but I want to fully surrender to Him.  It is easy to surrender 20%, maybe even 45% of ourselves to Him, but why can’t we fully let go of our own lives and live for Him and Him alone!  There is always something in my life that competes with God for my attention.  Whether it be fantasy football, work, money, personal hobbies, etc . . . there is always something competing.  When I stop and look at what I am trading my relationship with God for, it is truly silly how insignificant these things really are, but for some reason they continually interfere and work their way back into my life.  When will I have the strength to submit my life fully to God?  I pray for the strength to achieve this everyday, and everyday I feel myself getting stronger where at some point in the future I hope that I will have the strength and courage to fully submit 100% of me to Him.
