I Tell You the Truth | John 5:19

I Tell You the Truth | John 5:19

When reading the bible I noticed Jesus said the phrase “I tell you the truth . . .” numerous times during His ministry.  I don’t know about you, but when I hear the son of God say, “I tell you the truth . . .”,  I figure it is a good time to listen and try to understand what He is referring to.  Today I will analyzing John 5:19.

19 Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.  20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does.  Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these.  21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.  22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgement to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father.  He who does not honor the Son, does not honor the Father, who sent him.

There are a few things in this snippet of scripture that I found interesting.  The second half of verse 20 is crazy to think about, “Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these.”  We can’t even begin to imagine the wisdom and depth of God.  I can’t wait to see the home He has prepared for us that follow his commands.  Another thing that jumped out was verse 22.  “Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgement to the Son”.  We are to live our lives like our perfect example, Jesus Christ.  There is only one way to the Father, and that is through the Son. I personally need to start living as if I knew Jesus was coming tomorrow.  I need to live with a sense of urgency to live my life for Him and not for myself.  My life here on earth is just but a moment in time, while my life after I leave this place endures forever.

Jesus, I pray that you continue to soften my heart and bring me closer to you no matter what the worldly cost because I know you are the only thing that matters!!!

  1. Amen! To know we have someone to plead our case before God. I don't know about you, but it gives me comfort to know I have someone else who loves me and knows me by name to tell the Father what kind of servant I have been. My personal goal is to hear the treasured words "hello my faithful servant, well done!" I pray we all have the same goal.
