30 for 30 Day 29 | 1 Corinthians 2:6-16

30 for 30 Day 29 | 1 Corinthians 2:6-16

30 for 30 is a daily walk with Christ which covers thirty small sections of scripture over thirty days.  The premise of the study is to really slow down and reflect on small snippets of scripture.  Today will be focused on 1 Corinthians 2:6-16

Wisdom from the Spirit

6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.  7 No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.  8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.  9 However, as it is written:

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”

10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.  The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.  11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him?  In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.  12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.  13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.  14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.  15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgement:

16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?”

But we have the mind of Christ.

Questions:

What was the key verse from the passage, the one that jumped off the page speaking directly to you?

The key verse for me was verse 14.  “14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.”  This reminds of a friend of mine.  I used to be focused on the things of the world, now I am focused on the things above.  When I speak to him about doing the good works of the Lord, he simply does not understand as he is thinking in a purely worldly and financial mindset.  Things that seem right to me seem  crazy to him.  Without saying it, I know he thinks my actions are foolish, but my actions are “spiritually discerned” from the Spirit of God.  I pray for him and others I know that they will allow Jesus to soften their hearts, because as I know, you just have to experience the overwhelming power of the Holy Spirit once to be hooked for life.

Are there any actions to take in my own life to better serve God?

I pray that I will continue to learn how to listen to what God wants for my life and be brave enough to do what I am commanded.  As it is said about those that the Holy Spirit is working within:

“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” – John 3:8

Is there an example for me to follow?

The example to follow is  Jesus Christ.

Have a different verse jump out at you, let me know which one and why—–Post a Comment!
