30 for 30 Day 16 | Psalms 19

30 for 30 Day 16 | Psalms 19

30 for 30 is a daily walk with Christ which covers thirty small sections of scripture over thirty days.  The premise of the study is to really slow down and reflect on small snippets of scripture.  Today will be focused on Psalms 19

The heavens declare the glory of God;  the skies proclaim the work of his hands.  2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.  3  There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.  4 Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.  5 In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course.  6 It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other;  nothing is hidden from its heat.  7 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.  The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.  8 The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart.  The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.  9 The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.  The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous.  10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb.  11 By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.  12 Who can discern his errors?  Forgive my hidden faults.  13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;  may they not rule over me.  Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression.  14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Is there a Command for me to follow?

The command that that jumped off the page to me in this passage was verse 14.  “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”  Before I write anything on this site, I pray that God allows him to work through me and that the words and thoughts that I share would be pleasing to Him.  Another time that I pray is first thing in the morning when I wake up.  I pray that the Lord will be with me in my thoughts and decisions that I will encounter during the day.

Verses 1 and 2 show how God displays his power through nature.  Just this past week I experienced my first Earthquake.  It was a 5.8 magnitude quake that originated near Washington DC.  I was working about 30 miles from ground zero when it hit.  As I was bouncing up and down I just thought, wow this is Power.  I was then informed that what I had experienced was a pretty average intensity quake?!?  Felt pretty powerful to me, but if that was only a average earthquake, then what does a 9.0 or a 10.0 magnitude feel like?  Multiply a 10.0 quake by infinity and you have God’s power.   I can’t even begin to wrap my head around the unfathomable power of God.  All I can do is just stand there with my mouth open and say, Wow!

Is there an Error to avoid?

I would say that the error to avoid is to be sure to keep God’s ordinances.  I usually think of rules as things that keep us from fun, but God’s rules are in place to make us wise, warn us, and give joy to our hearts.  They light our path through the darkness of the world and point us in a direction that fill our hearts with peace, fulfillment and satisfaction.

Is there a Promise for me to claim?

The promise that is for me to claim is the “great reward” that our Lord has waiting for all of us who obey his laws.

As always, would love to hear your thoughts . . . Leave a Comment

  1. The Lord has and continues to bring attitudes and behaviors to my attention that are not in line with who He has called me to be. Everytime I'm confronted with His way or mine, I always think that whatever He has called me to is going to result in a great deal of anxiety or "hardship" of some kind. Over and over again, He has proven that "the precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart". Everything He has called us to is for our own good and He provides peace and satisfaction as we walk in obedience to Him. I'm so thankful for God's patience with me! He takes those negative thoughts and turns them into praise as He shows me time and again that His ways are always good.
