30 for 30 Day 8 | Matthew 6:25-34

30 for 30 Day 8 | Matthew 6:25-34

30 for 30 is a daily walk with Christ which covers thirty small sections of scripture over thirty days.  The premise of the study is to really slow down and reflect on small snippets of scripture.  Today will be focused on Matthew Chapter 6 Verses 25-34.

Jesus Teaches about Worry

25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more important than food, and the body more important then clothes?  26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?  27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Questions:

Is there an Example for me to follow?

I believe there are two examples to follow in this passage.  The first being the “birds of air”.  They do not store possessions or food away in fear or worry that there may come a day that there may none to be had.  God provides what we need, when we need it.  This makes me question my own monetary savings.  Why do I save for the future?  Because that is what I was taught by the world?  My family and I just moved to a new area last year.  The housing is very expensive so we have been saving for a house.  I just received word that the orphanage where my niece was adopted from needs to build its own facility due to ever increasing rent where they currently reside.  Coincidently, the amount needed to build the new home is almost exactly what we have in our savings.  Do we need a house?  Wouldn’t our money be better spent providing a new home for these kids that have absolutely nothing?  These are the questions and decisions my family are torn with . . . .

The second example is the “lilies of the field”.  The lilies do not worry and God provides for them.  Wouldn’t he do the same for us who mean so much more to him?

Is there a Lesson to be learned?

I believe the lesson is simple, put your faith in God because he will provide for you everything that you need.

Is there Sin to confess?

I am not sure what the question is asking in regards to Sin, but my wife had a pretty good thought on it.  She is scheduled to have a c-section on Friday.  She says that sometimes that she is so worried about the surgery going bad it affect her relationship with God.  The fear and worry consume her making it hard to put her full trust in God.  So if you read this please pray for her.  Thanks

Are there any New Thoughts about God?

I pray that God will provide me the wisdom and strength to fully surrender my life to him and fully trust and follow his will for my life.

Please leave your thoughts, post a comment!!!

  1. I agree that the point of this passage is two fold.

    1. We need not weigh our spirit down with worry because He is faithful in His provision, always.

    2. Not as obvious, but very insightful on your wife's part :), that when we worry we are distancing ourselves from the peace He offers and it can become a barrier in our relationship with Him. Our attention becomes divided, too much attention on the concerns of this world and not enough on the things of eternity and our relationship with Christ.

I believe that EVERYTHING He has called us to ultimately is about fostering the relationship He so desperately wants to have with us.

  2. of course she and you are in our prayers!!!

  3. Paul Manganiello says:

We are praying for her and safe delivery. We are so excited about your growth in your spiritual life and that walk will turn heads toward Jesus Christ…..Louise and I have become so attached to your family and continually pray for everyone.
